Arabic automatic speech recognition (ASR) faces unique challenges due to diglossia, extensive regional dialect variation, and limited systematically balanced speech resources. Existing speech datasets often focus on single dialects or large-scale broadcast/web data, leading to trade-offs between linguistic diversity and annotation quality. We present BULBUL, a multi-dialect Arabic ASR dataset collected from 275 speakers across 11 Arab countries. BULBUL includes structured dialect and sub-dialect coverage, as well as recordings of classical Arabic and modern standard Arabic spoken by participants in their native dialectal accents to support accent-aware modeling. The quality of the recordings was ensured through a two-level human verification process. We further benchmark a range of recent ASR systems, establishing strong baselines for modern dialectal and accented Arabic ASR.
We present Tarjih, our proposed system for the Stance Detection in Arabic Language shared task (StanceEval-2026). Rather than predicting stance directly, Tarjih formulates the task as verification among competing arguments. An instruction-tuned LLM generates one steelman argument for each stance label, and a second blind pass evaluates each argument against the tweet without access to the gold label. Each argument–tweet is then jointly encoded with AraBERT to model their compatibility. From this pipeline, we derive three systems: a gated classifier, a pair scorer, and a ranking read-out. The pair scorer achieves the best seen-target test Favg2 of 0.73, while the gated classifier performs best on the unseen-target track with 0.77. Overall, the lower test performance and ranking among the submitted systems indicate limited generalization across targets.

Mainstream large vision-language models (LVLMs) inherently encode cultural biases, highlighting the need for diverse multimodal datasets. To address this gap, we introduce PEARL, a large-scale Arabic multimodal dataset and benchmark explicitly designed for cultural understanding. Constructed through advanced agentic workflows and extensive human-in-the-loop annotations by 37 annotators from across the Arab world, PEARL comprises over 309K multimodal examples spanning ten culturally significant domains covering all Arab countries. We further provide two robust evaluation benchmarks (PEARL and PEARL-LITE) along with a specialized subset (PEARL-X) explicitly developed to assess nuanced cultural variations. Comprehensive evaluations on state-of-the-art open and proprietary LVLMs demonstrate that reasoning-centric instruction alignment substantially improves models’ cultural grounding compared to conventional scaling methods. PEARL establishes a foundational resource for advancing culturally-informed multimodal modeling research. All datasets and benchmarks are publicly available.

Our system, submitted to the Nuanced Arabic Dialect Identification (NADI-23), tackles the first sub-task: Closed Country-level dialect identification. In this work, we propose a model that is based on an ensemble of layer-wise fine-tuned BERT-based models. The proposed model ranked fourth out of sixteen submissions, with an F1-macro score of 85.43.
