Recent advances in Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have improved performance in multi-modal learning, raising the question of whether these models truly understand the content they process. Crucially, can VLMs detect when a reasoning process is wrong and identify its error type? To answer this, we present MMErroR, a multi-modal benchmark of 1997 samples, each embedding a single coherent reasoning error. These samples span 24 subdomains across six top-level domains, ensuring broad coverage and taxonomic richness. Unlike existing benchmarks that focus on answer correctness, MMErroR targets a process-level, error-centric evaluation that requires models to detect incorrect reasoning and classify the error type within both visual and linguistic contexts. We evaluate 12 representative VLMs, and even the best model, Gemini-3-Pro-Preview, classifies the error correctly in only 66.65% of cases, underscoring the challenge of identifying erroneous reasoning. Multi-modal intent recognition (MIR) requires integrating non-verbal cues from real-world contexts to enhance human intention understanding, which has attracted substantial research attention in recent years. Despite promising advancements, a comprehensive survey summarizing recent advances and new frontiers remains absent. To this end, we present a thorough and unified review of MIR, covering different aspects including (1) Extensive survey: we take the first step to present a thorough survey of this research field covering textual, visual (image/video), and acoustic signals. (2) Unified taxonomy: we provide a unified framework including evaluation protocol and advanced methods to summarize the current progress in MIR. (3) Emerging frontiers: We discuss some future directions such as multi-task, multi-domain, and multi-lingual MIR, and give our thoughts respectively. (4) Abundant resources: we collect abundant open-source resources, including relevant papers, data corpora, and leaderboards. We hope this survey can shed light on future research in MIR.

Joint intent detection and slot filling models have shown promising success in recent years due to the high correlations between the two tasks. However, previous works independently decode the two tasks, which could result in misaligned predictions for both tasks. To address this shortcoming, we propose a novel method named Label-aware Compact Linguistics Representation (LCLR), which leverages label embeddings to jointly guide the decoding process. Concretely, LCLR projects both task-specific hidden states into a joint label latent space, where both task-specific hidden states could be concisely represented as linear combinations of label embeddings. Such feature decomposition of task-specific hidden states increases the representing power for the linguistics of utterance. Extensive experiments on two single- and multi-intent SLU benchmarks prove that LCLR can learn more discriminative label information than previous separate decoders, and consistently outperform previous state-of-the-art methods across all metrics. More encouragingly, LCLR can be applied to boost the performance of existing approaches, making it easy to be incorporated into any existing SLU models.
